My Art Foundation Exhibition

Hello jaw surgery world!:) My art course that I have been on for the past year has completely finished now, I'm so sad because I've loved it so much, It's been so much fun! I've met so many incredible people and made amazing friends, and have been left to go completely wild and just fully express myself with my art. I've discovered so much about how I like to work, and it has been so wonderful to be around such talented people, I've been in heaven! The other day was our exhibition opening, it felt soo amazing for people to finally be able to see the work that we've all been slaving away on for so many months, I think our exhibition was really great, everyones work was so good in such different ways there was so much variety. I had such a good night, I brought my parents and one of my very best friends Olivia. Then after the exhibition me, Olivia and some of my other friends went to see a live band! It was so much fun:)
Heres a photo of me next to my exhibition...
My project was about my family, so each of the models in the picture represent a member of my family. Their bodies are made of objects that have history of use within the house, and some of the objects represent the individual's personality!:)
My surgery is in 2 weeks now, I'm feeling quite ok about it, I go through waves of feeling really scared but I'm trying to think really positively about the whole thing generally:) My neighbour Mike works in the hospital that I'll have my surgery in, and he came round the other day to tell me he spoke to the guy who will be my anesthetist for the operation and he says he told him he has to look after me as I'm his neighbour! he says the guys really nice so thats good
I'm going on holiday on Sunday to Amsterdam I'm so excited! It's such a perfect thing to happen before my operation it'll completely take my mind off any nasty surgery thoughts. Then we get back the day before my surgery! So I'll have no time to just sit there worrying yaayyy

The Olden Days

I love looking through old photos, It's crazy to see how much has changed! I think after my jaw surgery I'll look more like I did when I was little:) My teeth fitted together normally when I had my baby teeth.

It's less than a month until my surgery now! I'm starting to get quite scared..... I couldn't sleep last night because I couldn't stop thinking about it! Also, I wanted to ask everyone, I am planning to go on holiday to Holland the week before my surgery. Do you think thats a good idea? I said to my friend that I want to wait until I know when my pre op appointment is before we book anything but shes had operations before and she thinks it probably wouldn't be a problem to change the date of the pre op... but I just don't want to do anything that might get interfere with the surgery! Especially since I was originally going to have a september date and that they've worked really hard to fit me in in July.
Anyway, I need to ring up because I still haven't got any of the information in the post that they said they'd send me and I want to ask when I'll find out when my pre op thing is, but they're not open for ages because it's a bank holiday weekend doh!

My Journey in Braces

It has been a year and 2 months since I got my braces on and my teeth have transformed in that time:) I have made a timeline to show you how they have changed!
They are soooo straight now! but also my underbite has got a lot worse as you can see, but that is all part of the process.. I can't wait until I'm putting up photos where my top teeth come over my bottom teeth!

THE 2ND OF JULY!!! aaaaaaaaaaaaaaahhhhh

Oh my gosh I can't believe it
I am having double jaw surgery on the 2nd of July 2012!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
WOOOOOOOOOHOOOOOOOOO I'm so happy I'm in shock I'm actually shaking! (although that may be from the 2 cups of coffee I've had this morning, haa but anyway!) It's so perfect yaaayyy
I got a letter in the post this morning which was a copy of a letter my orthodontist sent to my surgeon and it said in it 'I also noted that she has a date in July from the list that was circulated. Many thanks for managing to squeeze her in, hopefully she will be able to complete some of her gap year in Australia as planned.' how amazing! So then I rang up to confirm that I actually have a date in July and to find out more, and the receptionist said it's going to be the 2nd of July and that I'll get more information in the post soon! I am over the mooooooon
Heres the letter that my orthodontist sent:

I hope you can read that:) I also want to say a massive good luck to Meesh because her jaw surgery is today!

28 April 2012

I am 100% surgery ready!

Yesterday my orthodontist put my surgical hooks on!

I look like a robo mouth.

but I don't care because now this means if any cancelations come up in June/July I'll just be able to go for it straight away and they'll be nothing holding me back.
My orthodontists been amazing as well, shes done everything that she can do to help me get an earlier date. shes emailed my surgeon, and now she says shes going to write a letter saying that I have the surgical hooks on and that I am ready for whatever date he can offer!
yaaayyy!
Normally I would be really annoyed to have so much extra metal in my mouth for no immediate reason, but I just so desperately want an earlier date so that I can go to Australia as soon as I can. So I am willing to have any amount of metal in my mouth in order for that to happen:)
smiling profile photo, with clenched teeth.

One incredibly sad thing is, that now I can't have colours on my braces!
That was the one fun thing about braces.....
but It's because they fall off during the surgery.

tongue worries

Hello my beautiful jaw friends!
I just wanted to make a post because I've recently been having some worries about how much my surgeon told me he was going to move my jaws......
I've seen on other peoples blogs that part of the reason they are having jaw surgery is because their tongue doesn't fit on the roof of their mouth, and so the top jaw needs to be moved forward to make space for their tongue.
Well, mine doesn't fit in the roof of my mouth AT ALLLL.. when it's just resting, it lies between my top and bottom teeth, or sometimes behind my bottom teeth.
The reason I'm worried is that the surgeon is moving my top jaw forward by only 2mm, and the majority of the movement is going to be in my bottom jaw. I don't think 2 mm more room will be enough to make my tongue fit, and if my tongue still doesn't fit after, I was thinking maybe it would push my teeth into a bad bite again...?! eeek! well anyway I'm going to ask about it in my next appointment but I was just wondering if this is a rational worry or not. I think this is all called 'tongue thrust' but I have no idea really I don't understand it very well!!

Annoying but exciting appointment, and prediction photo!

I had my joint appointment with my surgeon and orthodontist yesterday..........dun..dun...dunnnn..
I'm so annoyed!! and disapointed, and upset and cross
well, I have been hoping for months and months to get my surgery in July, right after my art course ends, as my teeth are already surgery ready and I want to be recovered as soon as possible because I'm planning an extended trip to Australia to live with my cousin and work there. Anyway, I want to go to Australia as sooon as I'm well enough and I was hoping to be able to go at the end of this year! But, my surgeon said he wouldn't have any spaces until september......:( nooo and also, they said I wouldn't be able to travel to Australia for at least 6 months after the surgery, meaning I could only go to Australia in April next year and I would have half the time there than I thought.. He did say that if there was a cancelation they might be able to fit me in sooner, so I'm hoping and praying that there will be, and that I can have surgery in July! It would make such a massive difference to meee! I've not even planned anything for July and August so I feel like they'd just be wasted months, but I think if I do have to have surgery in September I'd just work for those months and try and raise money for going to Australia:)
The appointment was exciting at the same time though, they were discussing how they were going to move my jaws and the close minute detail that they looked at my face with really impressed me! They scrutinized every millimetre so carefully.... Anyway, they ended up saying that they'd move my top jaw about 2 millimetres forward and about 2 millemetres upwards, (I didn't realise they were planning on doing this! They said this would be because moving my jaw forward would mean more of my gum would show when I smiled, and so this movement would be to compensate for that. I did stress that I like how much gum shows at the moment though, and they said that it would stay the same and wouldn't change. Although my surgeon said that he thought my smile was too gummy and he thought my top jaw should be moved upwards by 3mm! I said I didn't agree with that though and my orthodontist didn't agree either), and my bottom jaw is going to be moved back by 6 millimetres! I can't believe how much that is!!
I asked my surgeon if he was planning to use that stitch on my nose and he said that he always uses it unless the person has a really skinny nose. So I'm really pleased about that!:)
They also gave me the prediction photo, It's amazing!!! I can't stop looking at it. It's so wierd though because I kind of feel like I look like that already, and when I realise I actually don't its a shock! So I think after the surgery I might just feel more like myself. My orthodontist said she thought I'd end up looking nicer than the photo though so thats incredible I can't imajine how it could be better!!
Here is a picture of me today (I'm sorry if it scares you I look vile with no makeup and bad hair but oh well!)

Heres the prediction photo! I hope you are all getting on really well and that you are happy:)
